In wake of the biggest mass shooting on U.S. soil, the Walt Disney Company pledges $1,000,000 dollars to the OneOrlando Fund in support of the victims as the city recovers. Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer formed the fund in order to assist those affected in this weekend's tragic event at the Pulse Nightclub in downtown Orlando. Disney's donation will start out at $1,000,000 but through one of their employee programs, that total could grow; every dollar donated by a Disney employee will be matched through the Disney Employee Matching Gifts: A Program of the Walt Disney Company Foundation. Bob Chapek, Chairman of the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, released a statement saying:
“We are heartbroken by this tragedy and hope our commitment will help those in the community affected by this senseless act. With 74,000 Cast Members who call Orlando home, we mourn the loss of the victims and offer our condolences to their families, friends and loved ones.” Per Disney Parks Blog, cast members and other employees working at Walt Disney World Resort wishing to donate blood to help victims may donate at five designated locations across the resort property.
Walt Disney World Resort is also providing complimentary accommodations for the families and friends of the victims. In other news.. a separate GoFundMe account was created just hours after the shooting. That account has brought in more than $3.5M, including a $100K donation from GoFundMe in less than 2 days. Please continue to give back or help out in any way you can as the city continues to heal.
