Walt Disney has indefinitely shelved the release of Beauty and the Beast in Malaysia after film censors altered a part of the movie. In Malaysia, movies with scenes promoting homosexuality are forbidden and Beauty and the Beast was given a P13 rating, which requires parental guidance for children under 13 years of age due to said 'gay moment.'
The country's two main cinema chains say the movie's screening, scheduled for Thursday, has been postponed indefinitely.
Film Censorship Board chairman Abdul Halim Abdul Hamid says he doesn't know why the film was postponed as it has been approved by the board after the minor gay scene [featuring josh Gad as LeFou] was axed.
The Associated Press reports that Disney officials have yet to comment on these developments.
Beauty and the Beast premieres in the United States Thursday, March 17.
