Live-Action Mulan to Hit Theaters in 2018

4:12pm ET

Walt Disney Studios confirms a reimagining of Mulan will become the company's next live-action film, following Beauty and the Beast.

Right now, the studio is launching a worldwide casting search for a Chinese actress to portray the princess warrior.

Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Jurassic World), who are also working on an Avatar sequel, are re-writing a 2015 script (written by Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin) for this upcoming project. Producers Jason Reed, Chris Bender and Jake Weiner are also onboard in the combination of a legendary Chinese ballad and classic Disney animated feature.

Disney has seen recent success with live-action adaptations with The Jungle Book (965.8 million) and Beauty and the Beast hauling in more than 91 million views on their first trailer in just one day. Mulan is expected to hit theaters on November 2, 2018.
