A Reimagining of 'The Lion King' is in the Works

7:17pm ET

Jon Favreau, director of the live-action The Jungle Book let's the cat out of the bag--- saying his next project will be a reimagining of Disney's blockbuster animated film: The Lion King

This adaptation will be different from many other Disney live-action films due to the fact the original 1994 animated feature has no human characters, Favreau has proven he can create a compelling movie that lacks people-- with his most recent movie The Jungle Book pulling in nearly $1B.

Favreau is already working on a sequel for The Jungle Book-- and recently said he's working on this:

The Lion King won Academy Awards for the original song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” (Elton John, Tim Rice) and original score (Hans Zimmer), plus two Grammy Awards, with the soundtrack selling over 14 million copies-- Director Jon Favreau says his reimagining will include tunes from the 1994 animated feature.

There is no word on a release date, or any details of the cast quite yet.

Stay tuned.
