Another highly-touted actor is looking to join the cast of a sequel to a historic Disney movie.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, actor Ben Whishaw is in negotiations to become a part of Mary Poppins Returns. Right now, Emily Blunt and Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda are officially onboard as Mary and Jack the lamplighter, with Meryl Streep set to take on the role as Topsy. Whishaw is mostly known for playing 'Q' in the Daniel Craig James Bond movies and he also voiced the lovable bear Paddington in the self-titled movie.
This advancement of Mary Poppins, directed by Rob Marshall is set 25 years after the original 1964 movie. If Whishaw does in fact join the cast, he is expected to play an all grown-up Michael Banks. Banks will experience a personal loss in the 2018 film and then meets with his big sister Jane. When the two are back together, they get a surprise visit from Mary Poppins and her lamplighter friend, Jack. Mary and Jack help bring the magic back into the lives of the Banks' children.
Oh yeah, Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke.. the original Mary and Bert are also rumored to make an appearance in the film. Mary Poppins Returns is slated to fly into theaters for a Jolly Holiday on Christmas Day, 2018.
