Director Guy Ritchie, the man behind Robert Downey Jr.'s Sherlock Holmes movies is now in negotiations to lead the live-action Aladdin project. Dan Lin, who produced the detective movies with Ritchie is also on board for this adaptation.
Disney is rolling out a copious amount of reimaginations of movies-- and this one about the streetrat and Arabian princess is the newest one added to the list.
Scribe John August had a live-action script ready to go; the Hollywood Reporter says the new movie will keep many of the musical elements from the 1992 animated feature. This new project is expected to have it's fare share of differences due to the history of Ritchie's non-linear directing.
When Aladdin hit theaters in 1992, it became the highest grossing movie of the year. Alan Menken scored the film-- and took home six Oscars, including 'best score' and 'best song' for A Whole New World.
There is no date set for when this project will get rolling.
