Disney Airs New 'Moana' Trailer During Olympics

2:24am ET

With most of the world dialed in on the 2016 Rio Olympics, Disney Animation Studios seized the opportunity to capitalize on the ratings bonanza by releasing another trailer to their upcoming movie, Moana. In this primetime showing, animators revealed more characteristic tendencies in both Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) and Maui (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson". Maui, a demi-god of the wind and sea, is all about becoming a hero and portraying an idol. Moana, a spunky, adventurous, courageous teen who sets sail with Maui to save the world. This sneak peak also gives a sense that Maui's animated tattoos help advance the the movie while also being able to provide a backstory. His tattoos are symbolic of their adventures, and it seems as if the demi-god relies on them, almost as if they were his partner.

It wouldn't be a true Disney movie without some animal companions, would it? The first U.S. trailer revealed Pua, Moana's pig-- and this trailer revealed another: Hei Hei. Alan Tudyk voices the startled-looking but cute Rooster.

One of the villains and challenges the duo of Moana and Maui must overcome is the great lava monster. This looks like it will be just one obstacle on their ocean-wide adventure, which fans will get to see in-full this Thanksgiving. Moana officially hits theaters November 27, 2017.
